Gallery: Igloo Observatory
A masterpiece of art and science combined. This 3.6 metre diameter pavilion was made for Olafur Elisson of Germany and is located in Japan. The 10 optical lenses over the spherical top are scientifically located to follow the earth's rotation and gather the sun's rays at 1 hour intervals. The sun rays are then split into beautiful rainbows which are projected to a 3.4 meter diameter sphere inside of the pavilion which can be entered and viewed by observers. Click on pics to enlarge.
